Daytona Beach News-Journal Online -- Business: "While product tie-ins and sponsorships are common to almost all professional sports, NASCAR fans are different from all other fans in the degree of loyalty they exhibit, according to Larry DeGaris, director of James Madison University's Center for Sports Sponsorship in Harrisonburg, Va.

A new lease on daytona - OrlandoSentinel.com: Volusia County News: ISC's latest offer of $500,000 annually to lease the DIS property "is less than a quarter of what ISC pays the city of Homestead today to lease its track there.
Bob Leib, the consultant the racing district hired to analyze the Speedway's offer, said the tracks can't be compared because Homestead taxpayers invested a huge amount to build that track and deserve to get more back.
However, in 2016, ISC's payments [on Homestead] will decrease to $1 million a year because the city's investment will be repaid at that point. That would still be twice as much as ISC proposes to pay for the Daytona track.
...
The nearly 450 acres the track sits on is valued at $32.7 million, Gilreath said. If the land were taxed, it would bring in $832,715 a year to the county -- more than $300,000 above what ISC wants to pay in rent."
